The Martian by Andy Weir – 4.75/5 stars
Published: 2011, Broadway Books
Genre: Science fiction

Reviewer: Ibrahim Dagher, Class II

The Martian is a great book. If you love space or the idea of exploring new planets, then this book is for you. This novel follows Dr. Mark Watney as he and his crew explore the planet Mars. They are part of the Ares III mission and not the first group to arrive there to explore. A catastrophic storm leads to the crew having to end their exploration early, but as they are going to the rocket they are caught off guard. Debris hits Dr. Mark Watney leaving him unable to reach the rocket. Presumed dead, his crew has to take off before they get stranded as well. The people at NASA have to figure out what happened to Dr. Watney and find out how to get his body back to Earth, but while looking at satellite imagery of the Ares III mission site, they discover something very interesting.

This book is a very fun book to read that keeps you wanting to know what happens next on the Ares III mission. You’ll feel like you’re right next to the astronauts following along with their journey. This book is really amazing and if you happen to like it, then there is also a movie for you to watch that puts the words you read into action.
